Registration
The Annur Quran Competition is a NorCal-only event modeled after the prestigious Imam Shatibi style competitions. We focus on elevating spiritual excellence, where participants are meticulously judged on both Tajweed and Adaa across five competitive categories.
Important Dates & Deadlines
Registration Period
June 1st – July 31st
Registration may close earlier if capacity is reached.
Last Day to Drop
August 15th
Final deadline for withdrawal without administrative record.
Preliminary Round
Aug & Sept
Conducted for all levels at Masjid Annur.
Final Round
Nov 25th – 29th
Grand finals for top performers in all categories.
Eligibility & Rules
Eligibility
- Open only to residents of Northern California (NorCal).
- $35 non-refundable registration fee per participant (paid online with the form).
Progression Rules
- Past 1st place winners must advance to the next level.
- Past 2nd and 3rd place winners may remain in the same level if they choose.
Tajweed & Adaa Grading
Judges will evaluate participants based on technical precision and artistic presentation. Scoring areas include: correct makharij (articulation points), proper application of tajweed rules (such as ghunnah, ikhfa, idgham, and qalqalah), fluency and flow of recitation, and overall accuracy. Scoring will reflect mistakes and immediate corrections made during the performance.
Beyond technical rules, judges grade on Adaa—the tone, humility, and deep respect shown for the Quranic text. Please note that major tajweed errors and repeated mistakes will significantly affect the final score.
